Tutorial Bergambar - Beg Cerut (Drawstring Bag)

Masuk ikut pintu A, tiba2 keluar ikut pintu J... selipar ditinggalkan di pintu A. Dah terpaksa tawaf masjid pulak mencari selipar sepasang.

Dah siap! Tahniah!

Gaun tingkat-tingkat a.k.a. tiered dress.

So... I was going through my FB newsfeed as I do every day... and I kept coming across a friend's DIY home sewing projects. She seemed to be on a sewing spree.

Mak aii... saperah (that's alas meja for some of you), kitchen towel, sarung kusyen etc. you name it. Siap amik order lagi, on the go. Well, no surprise lah... she's celebrating xmas soon and she's busy doing up the house for the coming festive season. And if korang nak tahu, for us sharing the same hobby, this "showing off" (no offence intended here) of diy projects on social media is very contagious.

I, myself, had been putting off sewing due to segala macam kesibukan... yang benar dan yang dibuat-buat, eheheh.... and I had been wanting to get my creative juice flowing again. And now that the school holidays have started, what better time to jump head on and "merempit" like heck, kan?

So after browsing online for some ideas, terciptalah dress untuk anak bongsu aii...

I don't have a tutorial for this dress sebab truth be told, hakak nak siapkan cecepat dek non oii... kalau buat tutorial kang kejap2 dah nak kena pause tangkap gambar lak dulu at every step. Haish! Kan ke lambat tuh?

Apa2 pun, insyaAllah lah, kalau hakak terasa rajin yang luarbiasa, I might just make another one dan buat tutorial sekali ehh? Ehh? Ok?

Hakak belanja gambar je posting kali ni, orait? Apa nak namakan baju ni erk? Dress lobang jantung? Jantung berlobang? Hahaha... apa2 pun, I sangat puas hati dengan baju ni. Tak nyesal hakak buat pelan, hati2 and took my own sweet time. Tadi kata nak cepat siap, ni dah own sweet time plak?

Tablecloth and tote bag.

So....

Not that I haven't been doing anything. I have been busy lah, people. Ceh! I've been over-using the word "busy", and I think it's losing its power. Its strength. Its credibility. So much so that when I say "I'm busy", people go like "Pfft!! What else is new?" Arr haa haaa!

Tapi seriously, memang busy nak2 pulak lepas raya ni. Dah bukak sekolah balik and what not. And at this stage of my life, touching mid-40s, I am having lots of health issues. Mainly hormonal. Aches and pains, gas and winds, worries and fears, you know what I mean....

Getting up in the morning is a real, legitimate pain, I'm telling you. It's like... celik-celik mata and wham! Anxiety kicks in. No warning. No need reason. Just, aku nak datang, aku datang! Haaa gitu. And there is always some pain, somewhere. Pinggang today, perut tomorrow, kepala the next. I mean, I can't really be THAT old!? Deal with this every day and I bet you, depression is going to kick in, sooner or later. Blaarghh! Here we go again.

Well anyways, enough grumbling.

Other than mengadu on whatsapp kepada teman2 sekapal, I do the next best thing that occupies me and keep my mind off things I want to keep my mind off of. Things that mess with my brain cells and synapses.

Sew...

I mean, so...

I sew.

I make things. I bask and revel (mostly in my head) in the glorious feeling of having made something with love and passion and a dose of inadvertent perfectionism. (Read: OCD)

First up, I made a tablecloth for my dining table. My 2nd diy tablecloth since we bought the table. Terpaksa jahit sendiri because you know why? Alas meja untuk meja 8-10 orang (6' x 10') sangat lah susah nak cari. Setakat ni belum jumpa lagi jual kat mana2 kedai yang I pegi. Maybe ada jual kat some specific shop but I'm not one who would take the trouble to hunt something sampai ke lubang cacing. Since I can make it myself, jahit je lah.

Cewah.... "jahit je lah". Bila dah jahit, baru tau susah juga menjahit alas meja besar ni. Sebab?

1. I use cotton linen. Kain linen is heavy-weight. Having to deal with 12 kaki of linen as you sew is no easy feat, hokay? To begin with, I have always hated bulky projects. Urgh!

2. Target lebar alas 6 kaki. Bidang kain 5 kaki. Kontot benor! So nak taknak, kena sambung. Haaa... keje memotong border panjang ni lah yg lecehnye. Mind you, nak cover keliling alas meja tu.

3. Bucu. Mitered corners. Harder than they look. But now I know how to make them nice and sharp! Win!

4. Sewing bulky project yg memerlukan jahitan berbatu2 jaraknya using a portable machine ibarat nak ke JB dari KL naik basikal. Gedek gedek gedek! Apa sajaaa si Manisah tuu...

Having said all the above, here's my baby...

Back
Front

Took me 3 days to finish this. Pelan-pelan buat, hati-hati potong semua to minimize mistake. I didn't want to make a mistake and have to bukak balik semua jahitan, oh tidaakk!

When I'd finished with that one, I had enough leftover fabric (and then some) to make this tote bag.

I'm thinking of making more bags. Macam best pulak jahit beg.

But that would be another project for another time.

Cheers!

My ways to calm and inner peace

My first completed coloring piece.
Medium : Colored pencils (Colleen & Prismacolor)

I'm not a naturally creative person. Really. No talent whatsoever.

But I love being creative for the fun of it. It's a stress reliever for me. As it is for a lot of people, I'm sure. So, admittedly, most of my creative ideas are ideas yang dicedok sana-sini, tambah perisa sikit ikut selera sendiri and then voila! Dapat lah hasil kreativiti.

And what creative works I do depends on my mood.

Photography is my favorite. Unfortunately, being a mother of 4 who is constantly on the move and at the beck and call of two tweens and two toddlers... korang paham2 lah masa yang terluang tak banyak mana kan? Let alone nak keluar rumah dengan all my photography gear yang agak2 sama berat dengan my 3-year-old Aisyah. Ye, can do photography at home but I like outdoor photography better. And bayangkan tara kita nak set up camera tu, sambil tu budak2 pun berlari in different directions out of peripheral vision...haih! I can't take the stress and anxiety of it all. I just can't. Which is why, photography will have to take the back seat for now.

I sew every now and then when the mood comes. As you have seen in this blog, ada gak projek2 menjahit that I immersed myself in every now and then. Other times, I cook and bake, trying out new recipes. Still, at other times, I embark on DIY or home improvement projects yang bersesuaian dengan kudrat.

Simply put, being creative is an outlet for me to channel out stress and fatigue, walaupun kadang2 being creative tu sendiri mendatangkan stress hahaha! Menjahit can be stressful if you keep having to tetas your stitches. Baking too, bila kek tak naik urgh! But at the end of the day, there is that sense of accomplishment that feels extremely rewarding. Never mind benda yang dibuat menjadi or not. That's not the point. It's having that tangible outcome to touch and feel, along with the intangible sense of accomplishment. Kalau perkara yang dibuat tu menjadi, puas hati. If not, then you have something to work on on your next attempt. Gitu.

Recently, I jumped onto the bandwagon of adult coloring.

My second completed coloring piece.
Medium : Colored pencils (Colleen & Prismacolor)

I enjoyed it but not as much as sewing or baking. Nevertheless, it is an easy creative outlet that I can immerse myself in anytime, anywhere. That's a plus point. Considering my busy, busy life, I only managed to complete 2 pieces to date. I have a number of works in progress.... cause akak cepat jemu gitu. Suka tukar2 gambar, skip sana, skip sini, pastu patah balik hehehe.... And I have only stuck to colored pencils as my medium of coloring. Kalau ada masa in future, would love to try out soft pastels and water color. Haish! Too ambitious, you think?

Kain dah sampai...

Salam. Selamat pagi.

Lama tak bersiaran heheh! (Lama ke?)

Sibuk pun ye, takde bahan nak update pun ye jugak kut.

Masih lagi asyik men-doodle bila2 ada masa terluang tapi dek masa terluang tu pun terhad, tak siap2 lah adanya karya seni saya yang tak seberapa tu.

Anyway, dalam demam doodle masih membara, tiba2 dah sampai la pulak kain yang saya order tempohari. Kain cotton jersey. Cadangnya nak buat T-shirt patuh syariah. T-shirt muslimah.

Bukan tak boleh beli yang dah siap. In fact, banyak dah saya try beli yang dah siap.

Rasa macam budak2 pulak pakai baju besar.

Apa2 pun kain dah sampai, kena lah cari masa nak jahit kan?

Jumpa lagi...

XXX, Nin.

Warna-warni atau hitam-putih?

As you can see from my previous post, I masih lagi gile men-doodle. Really, uol patut cuba try test tengok... sangat meralitkan dan menenangkan fikiran. I love it so much that I siap beli berbatang-batang pen Sharpie berbagai warna. Nak try jugak lah buat doodle versi warna-warni. Dah kebetulan pun I suka mewarna. Bukan budak2 je suka mewarna uols... orang tua pun ramai yang dah pick-up this hobby. Kalau tak caya, cuba gugel "printable coloring pages for adults".

Kebetulan pulak hari ni I boleh curi tulang takyah masak memandangkan lauk sambal ikan bilis petai semalam masih banyak lagi. Sup ayam yang mak I buat pun ada lagi. Haish! Bagai orang mengantuk disorongkan bantal lah I... terus I capai sketchbook dan startlah mendoodle. Hari ni doodle gambar pokok plak lah.

Bila dah siap, I rasa macam I dah ter-carried away with the coloring lah. Macam over je nampak. Rasa nyesal la pulak. Benda bukan boleh padam. Rasanya hitam-putih jugak yang sesuai kan?

Anyway, no sweat. Hahaha! Itulah kelebihannya zaman digital ni... Ni ha yang dah convert. Lagi cantik dari yang warna-warni, setuju tak?

Apa2 pun I tetap puas hati, not because lukisan ni cantik sebab rasanya hasil kerja I belum layak nak masuk kategori cantik. Tapi puas hati sebab I mampu siapkan dan I rasa macam berjaya accomplish sesuatu hehehe.

I sempat juga share hasil2 kerja I di FB tunjuk kat kawan2. Kawan2 I ni memang ramai yang pelik2, tapi ada sorang ni memang extra pelik. Daytime dia keje pejabat, night time die keje troll orang. Tak caya... ni ha tengok dia troll my drawings...

Hahaha lawak kan? Biaq pi la masing2 kreatip cara masing2.

Cheers!

Gimme a pen and a piece of paper...

So I've been bitten by this new craze these past few days... doodling!

I've always been one who loves to write and scribble whenever I get a hold of a pen and paper. Nothing in particular, just lines and curves, squiggles and circles and lots of meaningless sentences. I'd write quotes or song lyrics, and then move on to practising my signature and then moving on to whatever else comes to mind. Just to while away the time to ease boredom. Or, in the case of being in a public place, to distract myself from the anxiety of agoraphobia.

And then one day, I came across some beautiful doodle artworks online and thought hey... this ought to be fun. I mean, all it takes is a black pen (I use the twin tip sharpie) and paper. There is no need to draw a rough sketch. All you have to do is start and expand from there. It doesn't have to have a theme, doesn't have to mean anything, doesn't have to look like anything... heck! Just fire away!

Gile senang kan?

It's what I've been doing anyway. Just not in an organised manner lah.

Doodling is pretty easy and straightforward. You can doodle anything, in any which way. Zentangling, on the other hand, is a little more organised and has some criterias to it. Read more about it here.

As far as I'm concerned, lantaklah doodle or zentangle, I'll do either one, or both if I want to. After all, the main purpose is for my own relaxation.

Here's the result of my first attempt... serabut kan? Hahaha! But let me tell you this, as far as relaxation is concerned, for me, this activity hits the spot. It works for me.

And today, I gave it another go while waiting for my turn at the doctor's clinic. Nombor giliran I 19, nombor sedang dilayan, 8... bayangkan berapa lama nak tunggu tu? Thank God I brought this with me and this is the outcome of my second attempt.

Just fyi, both of the above works are not finished work. I got sleepy with the first one (it was almost midnight at the time, gigih tak I melukis?) and my turn came up with the second one. They will most probably not be completed ever. Hahaha!

And tonight, I think I have gotten a little addicted and made another one. This one, I initially intended to stick to the Zentangle concept but the lack of ideas (almaklum, amatur... bukan kreatip sangat pun heheh) led me to later encroach over the fine line between doodling and zentangling. Whatever!

Lastly, this is the artwork of little Aisyah, my youngest. Apa mama buat, dia nak buat jugak.
The best doodle ever, sincerely straight from the heart! (biased, I know)

Huaaarrghhhh!! Mengantuk sudah...

Good night, everyone. And here's wishing you a fabulous weekend!
